Of garages and tiling

Spring has sprung, the grass is risen
I don't have to wonder where those flowers isen . . .

I have a back yard and a field full of bluebonnets. After last year, with only about 10 flowers in all, it is a joy to see them out there. We have also broken ground on our garage and I can finally see that my room is really going to get finished. I did a lot of tiling last week and will start grouting it tonight or tomorrow and then try to get more tiling done this weekend. It is really fun to work on.

After the garage is finished I will start looking at the yard again and doing a little out there.

I have been doing yoga regularly now for about 4 months and I am really glad I am back doing it. My teacher is really good. More about that later.

Don Quixote

I am just about to finish Don Quixote which gcotr gave me several years ago; I am savoring every word as I get to the end. We will discuss it tomorrow night at our book club. The discussion will be led by a friend who is from Cuba and who as part of her duties at a University in Florida, took spanish teachers to tour Spain during the summer. I am trying to really get up to speed on stringing proverbs together in really meaningful fashion. I will try some out on you soon.

All is well in k'vill

DE&O are doing well. Otis is fun to hang around with;" always full of devilment but better than the rest. " Three months is a long time between visits for someone that age.

Headed to Knoxville

Headed to knoxville tomorrow to visit with de&0 prior to their trip to Swaziland in April. Would like to go to SA in June for the World Cup, but alas not to be this time. Going to Honduras instead. Emily David and I are going to start writing our new Texas Text Book according to the new guidelines; we have to get in just the right mood to do the project justice with a capital J. I have contacted the family of Frank McLavey to get access to some of his old writings so I can really get to the truth of what is important to know about America. Our old LSU school mate David Duke may have some fresh ideas also.

Dole Reed and artist Stephen Quiller

This Friday's art crawl here brought a connective moment.

Remember Dole Reed, the artist of whom Mimi and Mother Bernice had lots of work? Well I went to this art show and met a water color artist named Stephen Quiller. He had about twenty beautiful water colors on the wall and they kept jarring my visual memory. Here is one.

I immediately thought of Dole Reed as I walked around the room. I asked a few artists if they had ever heard of Dole Reed, even the chair of the art department here.

None had heard of him.

Then I ask Quiller. His eyes lit up and he said, "He was my mentor.. my boyhood inspiration." So guess what we talked about. I really loved his water colors and if you want to see more, check out his site.

Stephen Quiller

He is also a connoisseur of Reed and can appraise them if any one out there has that need.

Moon over my place

Moon over the mountains in late February. The snows here are starting to melt and I wind down my third and final year in Gunnison. I am debating going to three areas: Montrose/Grand Junction, the Albuquerque are and Oregon.

Lately I have been thinking about how we as a family and as individual members wee both transient and stable. Diana for years moved here and there and now is stable in Atlanta. The rest of us have ad our stable moments and then our wanderlust moments.

I think I am looking for that stable place after a summer of wandering. I hope t travel either in or our of the country this summer/fall.
How about you?

Mission group to South Dakota

GCOTR, Remind me of your trip (s) to South Dakota. We have a group of youth from our church that are going to South Dakota to one of the Reservation-I think the Pines Reservation. Some of them have been going for a number of years. The poverty and hardship remains. Remind me what and where you did.
