ain't no grave gonna hold my body down

No that is not a proclaimation about any dire grave illness-- I have been listening to Johnny Cash's most recent...great treatment of old songs. Just back from Nashville, I am. Emily and Dave and Otis headed to Swaziland tomorrow. All is well. What music are we listening to?

Don Quixote/translation by Edith Grossman

We had a great discussion led by our Spanish scholar who gave us a lot of the local color of the places around Spain that were mentioned and insight into the significance of names. We ate Spanish dishes and some drank wine from the wineskin. The discussion got off track talking about our favorite parts so we did not get more philosophical before the time ran out. Next month-Man and Superman-GBS.

Jack, I got almost as excited as you with your slab when I got a full load of gravel.

Snapshots of the Slab and other Picturesque stuff

Jack's Snapshots...

It was a pretty springariffic day, in addition to being slabariffic.

Best wishes to all my Wards.

Good Friday Snow in Gunnison

Prince, n'enquerez de sepmaine
Ou elles sont, ne de cest an,
Qu'a ce reffrain ne vous remaine:
Mais ou sont les neiges d'antan?

(Prince, don't ask me in a week
or in a year what place they are;
I can only give you this refrain:
Where are the snows of yesteryear?)

François Villon c.1461

Where are the snows of yesteryear??
Reminds me of a place long ago when it snowed on Easter... Phil

Jack's Post!

I'm "making a study of" blogs. I've learned about "following" blogs, and about Google Reader. It's been a blind spot partly because in my workplace, which is a public high school the entire blogosphere is locked out of the firewall... Here is my "blog about blogs" blog:

Anyway, I'm going to be following my Wards more closely, so keep the ball in play.

In other news Herself and I are just giddy with the slab of our new garage having been poured today. When the driveway is poured I'll probably really be beside myself.

Between the bluebonnets, the rebar, the rubble, the little bulldozer thing, and the new slab, the yard is most picturesque. If I take some pictures tomorrow, I'll post them somewheres and share...

April Fools Day

Hi all,

I was trying to think of a good April Fools joke to play on you all, but couldn't think of any in a hurry. I didn't think you all would fall for the old "I'm pregnant" joke. But my cat is and we had her fixed several years ago. We are going to submit her to the Scientific America contest for the weird and unusual. Anyone need a kitten?
