Got to work on stepping stones this weekend

I have been working on a couple of stones as a "thank you" to a couple of friends. Here is my progress.

I've gotten to where I will make stones in almost any container I find that I think might work, but I like my own jigs best. I am getting ready to make a new one that will be either a trapezoid or a triangle.

  1. Those look to be very creative. Can you do a step-by-step (pun intended) on how to do them??

  2. I've actually done pictures of each step, but basically you decide on your pattern, put sticky paper in the bottom of whatever mold you use, sticky side up but I usually but some tape on the other side to hold it to the mold. Put the glass, tile, rocks, found objects - whatever you want to use, in the bottom, the side you want seen facing the bottom. Mix up concrete - for most of my stones now I use sanded mix for a nicer finish, but not always. Make sure it is well mixed and then pour carefully so you don't move the design. It is quite easy. The design usually takes the longest. After it is set and cured for a few days, I grout it with what ever color I think goes best and then after a few more days or weeks, I seal it with a concrete sealer, leave the bottom unsealed to let moisture out. That's it, I think.

  3. Do you ever sleep? Looks like fun. I would like to make some stones for our backyard with handprints from the kids, etc.
