Onions. First you boil them till they are almost done, Then you make a white sauce-- butter and flour then add 1/2 and 1/2 with some mysterious ingredients. I like dill, curry and some other mysterious spices. I melt some cheeses into the mix too.
Then put the onions in a pan for the oven and pour the sauce over it . Sprinkle over Romano or Parmesan cheese and bake for a while longer.

The white sauce should start with melted butter then blend with the flour and spices and then add half and half.
There are no set measurements..
I made some a few weeks ago for a pot luck. Works with carrots and other veggies too.

Cut this recipe in half for a smaller family dinner.
Ingredients:
- 3 pounds small white onions, peeled
- 1 teaspoon salt, divided
- 1/4 cup butter or margarine
- 5 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups low-fat milk
- few drops hot sauce
Preparation:
Place onions in saucepan. Add 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and enough water to cover. Bring onions to a boil; cover and cook 20 to 25 minutes. Drain and set aside. For the sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt butter in saucepan; blend in flour and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. Gradually add milk; cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Stir in hot sauce. Thanks so much. My mouth started watering as I was reading this. I think I will do this for Thanksgiving and I am the only one who eats them, better for me!
