Went to a hot springs last week and stayed in a yurt. Had a good time but had a very terrifying episode with a woman, her dog and hot springs that were not marked. The dog ran into the unmarked springs/hot.. and the woman ran in afterwards and all got stuck and were boiling... Rescue time of sorts...
Otherwise (Said Mrs. Lincoln), it was a great play.
ON ANOTHER NOTE>>>>>
I got a letter from an Georgia lawyer... actually a packet.. and thought, "Well, darn, Diana is suing me for misdirections on how to use this blog. " and I almost threw it away thinking it was an ad..
Glad I didn't. It was from a former class mate at Sewanee and friend who made a recording/ CD from tapes/ of the Swanee choir when I was on tour back in 68-69 period. I had a chance to listen to it last night and was stunned that I ever sang in a group that sounded so beautiful.
Do you all remember our tour through Louisiana then?
At the risk of sounding egotistical (me??? never...) I would be glad to make a copy and share it. I am thinking it is full of good 'Episcopal type' music that Kathryn might like and Steph came to the tour I remember ad maybe Diana too.
Steph, I will let you tell about the line: "I'm only 14 and besides, I'm Phil Ward's brother."
And on another 'note,' I played five songs in a benefit concert last night. I actually practiced for a few weeks and went beyond where I usually go.. I learned a very slow, soulful bluesy rendition of Brother, Can You Spare a Dime and then played Rock Me, Baby, Baby, Please Don't Go, Dusty Box Car Wall (Eric Anderson) and Coal Miner's Blues (Judy Collins among others, I think).
Two people said I sounded like Neil Young... or maybe it was Loretta Young..
I was really flattered as the mic system and acoustics were great for me.
My yurt accommodations...

Later, Phil
Yes, we would love a copy of the choir
ReplyDeleteCD. I have been wondering what a Yurt is; we will now install one in the back 5 as accommodations for our next guest. Don't invite that lady and her dog come to my next craw-fish boil. And finally, Stephanie, I heard a nice piece on NPR Saturday about a bar/music venue in San Antonio named Taco Land that had a great run until the owner got shot. Diana, sounds like the kinda place that the hitchhiker that a friend picked up stabbed someone in the bar. later.
Yes, I would love a copy as well. I remember you coming through New Orleans. I think we ate at the Commander's Palace with Gene and jeeze, I went blank on the other guy's name. What was his name? And I don't remember the line - but then that goes along with not remembering names, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteKelly, that's Texas. One reason to be careful about going to bars. We had a shooting in Marble Falls a couple of years ago. Guy was shooting at his ex-girlfriend/her new boyfriend and the bartender walked out of the restroom, right into the line of fire. Bam. The killer went on to kill about 4 or 5 more - guess he figured if he was going to be on the run anyway, might as well get rid of the rest of the ones that irritated him.
Yurt as guest room - good idea, but how do we keep the snakes out?
Got two offers on the house yesterday after posting my comment. Hope they stick. I think the other was either William Taylor (dark hair) or my frat brother who was always... (naaah he never was straight enough to learn the songs..)
ReplyDeleteThe line , Steph, -- The head of the choir... Billy or Glenn Davis maybe someone from South Carolina who had a superior/inferior relationship with me.. meaning he felt superior to me and everyone and felt soo soo cool, came up to you and asked you out. You were shocked and said. "But I'm Phil Ward's sister." he was totally embarrassed and that became a bus joke for the rest of the tour.
It happened in New Orleans at the Cathedral... just before we went to Commander's Palace..
He was a lot friendlier with me after that cause I let him off the hook on total and complete embarrassment. He also thought you to be a lot OLDER. Then that was a good thing.
Ahh, the good ole days....
Phil
I am listening to the CD (thanks for sending it!) right now and the other guy I am thinking of is the younger guy that I wrote back and forth with for a while. He was also gay, if I remember correctly, but I didn't know that at the time either. Blond - and I should really remember his name . . . it is on the tip of my tongue.
ReplyDeleteI remember William Taylor and now I remember the bit about telling someone I was your sister - but I actually used that line quite a few lines. It got me out of lots of situations - good and bad.
