Making beer

Jack and I decided to give his dad a beer kit for father's day because he likes "procedures" and he likes "beer" occasionally. But after looking over the process, he decided it was too much (it seemed like a good idea at the time). So he gave it back to us and said he would just drink the results. So we did our first batch a few weeks ago and it turned out pretty good. It was a pale ale and I gave a great deal of it away almost right away. We are saving some for this weekend because Jack's dad is coming this weekend to taste it and I will send some home with him.

Waiting to add the hops

I started our next batch last Sunday and it is a dark beer and should be ready close to the end of October just in time for October fest. We are not huge beer drinkers, but I am having fun making it and giving it away.

Old Buicks

Driving from Glenwood Springs on a hot, dry day when I got to Delta, Colorado...

I ran across a car lot full of old Buicks. Here are three shots.

Most were in the 1950-1955 range. Like metal ghosts from the past, they kind of grin at you with big shiny buck teeth.

There are many things to talk about

Just thought I should remind everyone, there are lots of things to talk about other than the weather in Texas and the Texas Governor. Like, we got some tomatoes the other day that were really delicious and Jack order a new cookbook for me based on the O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin series and Trevor got a promotion at work and . . . just so many other things.

But, if anyone asks about Perry, as I told Diana, Voldemort would make a better president. Seriously. End of discussion.

Now, did I tell you about the twin fawns we have in our . . .

Summertime, summertime, sum sum summertime

You know, I hate to say it but I am starting to get used to 105 degree weather. And heck, it is only 80 degrees at 6 am so that's the time to go out and do all that yard work and stuff.

I am hoping this is just a freak year, though. I don't know if I want most of my summer at temperatures that make it hard to go outside for more than 30 or 40 minutes. It's not like I can spend the day at the pool anymore. So what is it like to be retired, you three. Oh, and by the way, I am still in my fifties. Too young to retire anyway.
